[Hyper 8.5]

Hi Guys,
Can anyone help me?! I have made a return to the hobby after some time away and bought a Brand new Hyper 8.5 RTR. I got if from ebay - not a shop but a member but it was definitely brand new as there wasn't a mark on it. Before turning the engine over I put a few drops of after-run oil in the glow plug hole as advised in a magazine.

I got the fuel into the carb and got the egine going. It was very stiff to pull over to start with but once the fuel was in the engine it was ok. The engine was idling really nicely. Just as I picked up the controller it stalled. I went to start it again but it wouldn't turn over. The engine had seized.

I have taken the engine apart and sure enough the piston is well and truely stuck in the liner. The con-rod is intact so I can't get the parts out. Has this happened to anyone else?

What should I do? - Does anyone know how I can contact Hobao?

I was using some 25% Model technics Big Bang fuel - I have read it's not the best but surely this wouldn't have caused it to seize after about only 10 seconds of idling? The glow plug was a McCoy MC9.

Any help and advice would be much appreciated.

Be carefull not to confuse a very tight liner with a seized one! To be honest i think because of the tight tolerences of a new engine the piston liner has not been run in yet and gave the impression it has seized.

Take a hair dryer and use the hot setting on it to blow hot air onto the liner when it is nice ant haot just pull the piston out from the bottom. Put your engine back together again and prior to starting heat up the engine with the hair dryer and when warm enough try again.New engines are notorious for this but after a few atemps it wikk be more easier!

Many thanks for your reply. I have just done what you said and it has freed the engine up a treat. I'm amazed - the piston was really stuck! Thanks again, I'll be sure to heat it up again before I start it up tomorrow.
